Pastel Portrait of Mrs. Karen R. Lawrence

Institutional Pastel portrait commission of current President of Sarah Lawrence College.

A few months ago I was contacted by Sarah Lawrence College, a private liberal arts college in the United States. It is located in Southern Westchester County, NY. They proposed me a very interesting project. The creation of a Pastel portrait of the current president, Mrs. Karen R. Lawrence, for the Sarah Lawrence magazine cover and as a farewell gift to her.

Mrs. Karen R. Lawrence is concluding her 10-year presidency in July 2017.

I am very happy with the recent release of the new Sarah Lawrence Magazine, spring number, that I have received at home a couple of weeks ago.

And more happy to see my work on the cover of this magazine!! It was a big challenge and high responsibility and it is normal to feel anxiety in some degree until the project is completely finished.

Sarah Lawrence magazine is published twice each year by the Office of Marketing & Communications. Its mission is to connect alumni and other members of the Sarah Lawrence community to the College and to one another.

 

The last part of this story, and maybe the more special to me, was to receive a personal letter from Mrs. Karen R. Lawrence.

 

“Dear Graciela,

I wanted to say thank you for the beautiful portrait you painted of me.  I had seen your work, among that of a number of artists, and thought that you were exceptional at capturing the expression of your subjects and, perhaps, even their “soul”. I wanted to tell you how delighted we are with your work…”
