Visiting La Alhambra in Granada

I haven’t blogged for a long time.  The rhythm of the days is becoming somewhat monotonous and the desire to travel insists more and more! With great affection, I open our folders of photos taken during the last great trip we made with my family, just before the second confinement by the Covid. I published then the first part of this trip, the visit to Portugal, but I left the second part for later… and I think it is time to publish it.

This is our visit to the Alhambra in Granada, Spain! One of the true wonders of the world … which was open and practically empty in September 2020. Something incredible considering that the previous year, the Alhambra received some 2.8 million people!

The feeling that I remember having in the Alhambra was of being in pure harmony with myself… and this came stright from the environment! I felt as if life was growing in me and I felt elevated in some way. I had something similar to the traveler syndrome , also colled the Stendhal syndrome. Who after visiting Florence, came to say “I had reached that degree of emotion in which the heavenly sensations given by the Fine Arts and passionate feelings stumble. Leaving Santa Croce, my heart was beating, life was exhausted in me, I was scared of falling “. For my part, during the visit in Alhambra I felt true happyness.

I was also impressed by how water is always present in the Alhambra, as pipes, streams, or as fountains. I was much more surprised to discover that a hydraulic system was designed in the year 1238 to satisfy the water needs. A true marvel of medieval engineering that in turn creates a microclimate full of life, shade, and freshness.

This water creates what is called “The green Alhambra”. A large environmental unit that surrounds the historic complex and is made up of forests, orchards that are still cultivated, and exterior and interior gardens, within the same palaces.

The water is always present … Alhambra de Granada, Alhambra verde.

It’s a magical place! Something mystical and very deep and I prefer not to talk too much about it … Just wanted to share some photos of what I saw and wish all of you, who love art, that you can one day visit this marvel of the ingenuity and creativity of the human being!
